Because of course I would want to talk about forever and nostalgia right now

You know that feeling that you get when all you want to do is make something beautiful, and instead sit around on your computer and become sad and nostalgic for everything that ever was? When you know you need to do something important but you look at all the rookie road trip photos and long for something that beautiful and that magical? Do you ever long for those moments of strange magic that never seem to happen often enough, yet when they do occur you remember them for a life time? Those moments where everything just seems right and you wouldn't change a thing. Those times where you feel unstoppable and infinite and free.✨

blk frdy

As many of you know, in America, the day after thanksgiving man stores have huge sales in preparation for Christmas. This year, like previous years, I woke up at 4:45 to get the good deals. We went to the Americana in glendale and went to the Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, H&M, Free People, Madewell, and barnes and Noble there.
The full haul minus presents for other people because I don't want to spoil them.

The first store we went to was Urban Outfitters. There, the first thing I got high waisted, velvet, bell bottom, pants with a slit up the front that hits juts above my knee for $15. The next thing was a blue and white polka dot tank top skater dress with a low back, for $10. The third was a lavender short sleeve crop top for $5 and finally hair chalk for 50 cents and face/body/hair paint pens for $2.

Our next stop was forever 21 where I tried on a velvet turtleneck crop top, but didn't buy because the head hole was too small.

After that we went to H&M where I bought a black fuzzy coat for $20. I have been wanting one for a while, so this was a perfect item to satisfy my cozyness need.

At Madewell I just picked up a birthday/hanukkah gift for my camp friend, and since I already gave it to her, it was just a black and white striped cardigan.

Then we went to Barnes and Noble where my little sister purchased a book, and I bought my moms holiday present.

That was all at the Americana, so afterwards we high tailed it down to Amoeba in Hollywood where I purchased the newish vampire weekend record, modern vampires of the city.

skylight (sorry its late)

At the beginning of this month, I went to skylight books in Los Feilez to hear my personal idol, Tavi Gevinson, and some other Rookiemag contributors do a reading. I was completely blown away by what they had to say.

First we heard Emily Gordon read a totally inspiring piece about girls and sexism in the video game world, which, while not a gamer, I completely related to.
Next Marie Lodi, a friend of mine got up to the mic and read a piece from the just wondering section about getting rejected and getting over it.
Finally Tavi got up and read her beautiful and inspiring and relatable and perfect piece.. it is the editors letter for next month's theme forever, and you will have to wait until them to read it because I'm not going to spoil it here muahahahahaha. It was all about the concept of forever, and how we all have our own little forevers, an what happens to us when they come to and end. It was literally amazing. Tavi kept getting choked up throughout the whole thing because she knew, and she even talked about with being a senior, a bit of her forever is ended/coming to an end.
After the reading, there was a signing with everyone. I had Marie, Emily, and Tavi sign my copy of Rookie Yearbook 2 but I also gave Tavi a handwritten letter that I wrote her about how Rookie has changed my life and how I wouldn't be who I am without it blah blah blah.  she didn't read it then and there because that would have taken a really long time because it was really long but she looked really happy and emotional and about to cry and she remembered me from over summer and so many feeeelingzzz.
Besides hanging out with Tavi & co., I also got to meet some really cool readers. A lot of the people I met were people that recognized me or I recognized them from previous events/tumblr/instagram/anywhere else on the internet. This part was especially cool because you see someone on the internet and you talk to them only through that media, so when you finally meet them, you're juts like YOU'RE AN ACTUAL HUMAN BEING AND NOT JUST A FIGMENT OF THE INTERNET/MY IMAGINATION. There is really something to be said about the community that rookie has created, it allows readers to meet other likeminded people that they wouldn't have necessarily met before. It is really nice to be able to know you have so much in common with people who don't know you or your reputation, or who don't go to your school or even sometimes live in your area. i find that these people are people i can talk to more easily than even some of my closest friends.

A Jesus of Sorts

Last night I went to go see Father John Misty play a solo acoustic set at the Wiltern in Hollywood. I can honestly say that it was such an amazing experience. We got there early so we were right in front for the whole show. I mean like I-put-my-purse-on-the-stage-when-I-got-tired-of-holding-it close. It was great.

His opening act was a comedian I had never heard of named Kate Berlant, but she turned out to be realllly funny. Her whole thing was that she came out with a guitar, but never actually played any music because she was too busy talking. She bit reminded me of Cecily Strong's recurring weekend update character "the girl you wish you never started a conversation with at a party" mixed with one of Fred Armisen/Carrie Brownstein's Portlandia characters.

When Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman, the ex drummer of the band fleet foxes) came on it was not only him, but off to the side was a woman in a high waisted swimsuit bottom, a lacey  bra and a bunny costume head sitting on a stool. He opened with "I'm Writing a Novel" and ended up playing a lot of new stuff as well as many of tracks off "Fear Fun". At one point during the show, a giant iPhone frame descended from the ceiling and came down in front of him for a few songs. He sounded and LOOKED great the whole night.

my one tru luv

Today was really exciting because after school my mom took me to dollar tree. I know what youre thinking you all are probably like wtf thats really weird and not at all exciting. I know youre thinking this because I have magical telepathic power and I just zapped all your brains wait what.

But seriously. I was really excited to go to the dollar store. I mean where else can you find fake hair pieces and glitter and craft supplies and weird little doll heads for an unbeatable price? The 99 cent store maybe.

Man there is so much cheap crap at the dollar store. Just today I bought fake flowers, glitter, nail decals, Lisa Frank dress up doll stickers, glowsticks, a fairy wand & wings, dress up plastic jewelry, and sparkly pipe cleaners. All that stuff is so awesome. i have no idea what I am going to do with it but I mean like who doesn't need these types of wonderful things???

Pins: homemade/stole from dad

And now some more really deep photobooth picture of me in this outfit.

YEARBOOK TWO!!!!!

As some of you may have already seen on my instagram (@sarahisenburger, shameless self promotion), MY ROOKIE YEARBOOK 2 ARRIVED!!!!This is uper exciting, folks!

Yearbook 2! In the flesh!

This yearbook contains way too much cool stuff. It comes with beautiful tarot cards, a cootie catcher and a build your own shrine, which I am seriously considering dedicating to Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend.
The tarot cards and cootie catcher which i have so artfully arranged with some old webkinz trading cards, a cracker jack prize, and a tin box my mom gave me.

By far my favorite articles have been the one Jenny wrote about M.I.A and the Rookie Road Trip spread which I look at and cry about because why isn't life one big fat rookie meet up???

I also really enjoyed the exclusive content like AN INTERVIEW WITH MINDY KALLING CONDUCTED BY LENA DUNHAM (!!!) and a letter to rookie readers from Judy Blume.

A crazy coincidence: My two favorite photo spread from both yearbooks (Daydream nation, the photos Petra took at salvation mountain in yearbook one, and the road trip pics in yearbook two) are one the exact same page in both yearbooks, page 74. Perhaps it's my lucky number.

Other unrelated news: I now have a twitter! follow @sarahisenburger for a social media documentation of the things that go on in my head!

because tangibility

Rookie Yearbook 2 came out yesterday and I could not be more excited. (mine has not come yet because I preordered it two months ago and did not want to pay $37490586 to have it come on the day it comes out so). As many of you know I am a huge fan of rookie mag (pshh its not like I have an alarm on my phone that goes off when there a new post or anything, where would you get that crazy idea from????), and so this is kind of a PSA to

a)start reading ROOKIE if you havent already

or

b)BUY ROOKIE YEARBOOKS 1 & 2 (if you don't already own them in which case congratulations i now officially award you 10 cool points)

Rookie Yearbook is basically a tangible holdable non electronic form of the content that is on rookiemag.com but it also comes with other cool stuff like a flexi disc record, a crown, tarot cards and EXCLUSIVE CONTENT FROM SUPER IMPORTANT PEOPLE LIKE MINDY KALING, GRIMES AND LENA DUNHAM!!!! So exciting, I know.

So what are you waiting for? Get yer lazy butt of yer computer and go out and buy it!

HBD 2 ME

As some of you may or may not know, my birthday was a few weeks ago. So I thought I'd share with y'all what I did/got.

For brunch we (being my mom, dad, sister, her friend Kiki and my best friend Jordan) went to a lovely hotel restaurant on the beach in Santa Monica, where I ordered the best lemon ricotta pancakes ever.

Me and Jordan at the beach

After brunch we walked around Santa Monica and along the pier for the rest of the morning.

After Santa Monica we went back home to rest because we had a big night ahead of us. Then my other best friend Victoria and her mom came to my house and picked up me and my mom do go to dinner at a delicious restaurant called Lemonade.

After dinner came the best past of all. We drove to the El Rey theater to go see my favorite band BEST COAST!
picture of me and Victoria before the show

The first opening band was The Lovely Bad things, who I was very excited to see. They played a very loud and amazing set.
The Lovely bad Things doin' their thang
During one of their last songs their guitarist jumped into the pit next to me!

The next band on was Bleached who I was almost as equally excited for as Best Coast. Bleached rocked so hard, also their lead singer had the cutes outfit and all of them had the best shoes ever.
Bleached rocking out really hard

After Bleached came the band we have all been waiting for... BEST COAST!
Best Coast was absolutely amazing. I had seen them only one time before, at the Santa Monica pier, which is basically their natural habitat cuz all their songs are about the beach and babes. That was easily the best concert experience of my life, so  I was ready to see how this compared.
Bethany Cosentino was wearing THE BEST OUTFIT EVER and so I took it upon myself to scout out the pieces she was wearing which you can purchase here and here

After a few songs of Best Coast being in the very front, we decided to go to the back for a little bit. And thank god we did because if we didn't we wouldn't have MET BLEACHED!!!
Not the greatest quality picture in the world, but at least you can see Jennifer Calvin, the lead singer's super cute outfit!

Overall, the concert and the whole day was a blast! Best birthday ever!

ROOKIE FEST UPDATE

wow. Its been a while since I updated on here but I think this update is gonna be worth it. Last week in LA Rookie mag hosted a wonderful event with special guests, dancing, DIYs and a live musical performance! It was easily one of the best nights of my life. I got a chance to meet so many cool new people and had so much fun dancing and DIYing with everyone! Rookie fest was a

All in all, Rookie Fest was too amazing. If my life were the movie groundhogs day, this would be the day i would want to live over and over again. Check Rookie Mag for daily updates of awesomeness and on the first day of each month read the editors letter to see if Rookie is hosting and special events near you! Sunday Funday!

I started off my Sunday by cleaning out my closet, and taking all of the stuff I don't want over to Buffalo Exchange. I guess it was my lucky day because they took a lot of my stuff, and I made almost $70!

Unfortunately, while I was at Buffalo, my sunglasses got crushed in my bag, and now they are broken. Well, I guess thats what you get for paying $5 off some street vendor in NYC.
R.I.P. My Sunglasses

On the bright side, I took my $70 that I made from selling my clothes and used $8.50 of it to buy new ones! Yay!
My shnazzy new shades (very similar looking to the old ones)

After Buffalo Exchange we headed over to Brandy Melville. They just opened one by my house, and I had never been before to I decided to check it out. It is a very cute little store with lots of cute stuff. Brandy Melville is a very popular store at my school, so a lot of their products I recognized as stuff my friends already had. For me the most difficult part was finding something I knew my friends did not already have. In the end I settled on a black skirt with a yellow sunflower print. I really enjoyed Brandy Melville, but the one problem I had with it was that they only have one size of everything. The employees say that one size fist most, but what that really translates to is one size fits most skinny girls.
The grand total of everything I bought today: My sunnies, the skirt, and looking for alaska by john green (the standardized tests are coming up this week and I need something to do after I'm done.

Sprangggg Braaaaak

This Past week i have been on Spring Break! It seems like it took forever to get here, and now it is almost gone...
Here are a few pics of what I did and where I went.

I started off my spring break by seeing Christopher Owens perform live, in concert with my friend Sabrina. (for those of you who don't know who Christopher Owens is, there used to be this band called Girls, but last summer they broke up. Christopher Owens was the lead singer)

I went on a lovely hike with my mom one afternoon, the valley looks so beautiful from up high!

My new cactus plant that I bought to keep in my room

We went to Santa Barbara for a few days, and mostly hung out at the pool!

Did a bit of roller skating on the boardwalk

Went to a art museum in SB

Watched the Royal Tennenbaums for the first time a few nights ago and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
